Minnesota takes 1st place for highest rate of breastfed babies

The Centers for Disease Control has released its 2020 report on breastfeeding rates for children born in 2017. 

Although most infants born in 2017 started breastfeeding (84.1%), only 58.3% of infants were breastfeeding at 6 months.  The percentage of breastfed infants supplemented with infant formula before 2 days of age was 19.2% among infants born in 2017, an increase from 16.9% among infants born in 2016.

In the U.S., Louisiana had the lowest rate of 66.2% of babies ever breastfed and just 41% of babies breastfed at 6 months . Minnesota had the highest rate of 95.3% of babies ever breastfed, followed by Idaho 94.6% and Oregon 93.2%. 

Vermont is also #1 for longevity because 36.8% of moms were still breastfeeding at 6 months.
